Momma Believed in Love
Daddy worked a coal mine when he was just fifteen
He was just a young man but the man of momma's dreams
And when they got married back in 1953
They set out on a path of love that led all the way to me
Now I can remember growin' up in the old small town
Daddy kept me busy with chores, I never had time to feel down
And if I had a problem I'd say Daddy, what can I do
He'd just smile and say the words that I've grown to know so true
(Chorus)
Daddy said I believe in momma and momma believes in love
And for my child I just thank God above
You see I'll always try to have some thing that she'll be proud of
Because I believe in momma and momma believes in love
We never had to do without when times got tough
Momma would make a quilt and sell it and it seemed to be enough
Then Daddy would take her hand and tell her it's alright
Then we'd all have our supper and all would say goodnight
Repeat Chorus
When momma died back in 1985
I'll never forget the tears in my daddy's eyes
And as he looked at me and said boy, what can I do
I just smiled and told him the words he used to tell me oh so true
(Chorus)
I said I believed in momma and momma believed in love
And for my children I just thank God above
You see I'll always try to be something that she'll be proud of
Because I believed in momma and momma believed in love
Because I believed in momma and momma believed in love
