Daddy worked a coal mine when he was just fifteen
He was just a young man but the man of momma's dreams
And when they got married back in 1953
They set out on a path of love that led all the way to me
Now I can remember growin' up in the old small town
Daddy kept me busy with chores, I never had time to feel down
And if I had a problem I'd say Daddy, what can I do
He'd just smile and say the words that I've grown to know so true

We never had to do without when times got tough
