The Miner's Song
From Clinchfields Number One, to Kentucky's Skosha mines
This is where my story begins
It was a late summer day back in 1983
I remember it so well
From the little children's screams to the widow's weltered eyes
Oh it was a bad place in time
There were seven lives lost and they were all friends of mine
And I still grieve for their families
(Chorus)
Take me down in that old coal mine
Down to where the sun never shines
Take me down Lord and pray for me
Pray I live to see daylight
On a cold and cloudy day in a Kentucky coal mine
Twenty-two men lost their lives
And the memories of the tragedy still haunts in my mind
And I still hear their wild screams
There's been many a man die from workin' a coal mine
And I think it's time they're recognized
Repeat Chorus twice
Spoken: "By the grace of God I'll see daylight"
